Choosing Landau Forte SCITT will enable graduates to undertake all their teaching practice and formal training within a school environment, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) which you need to teach in most UK schools. Alongside our SCITT programme you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education(with masters credits) in conjunction with our university partner.

Landau Forte SCITT works in partnership with other local schools  and this allows teachers in those schools to share excellent practice and the most recent innovations with trainees. Our SCITT programme is designed and delivered by outstanding practitioners with current, relevant classroom experience.

School based training allows trainees to develop the necessary competencies to meet the challenges of teaching effectively in a school.

For graduates with the ambition to become reflective, well-informed teachers, able to achieve outstanding in their teaching practice, the Landau Forte SCITT offers the ideal environment for initial teacher training.

Why train with us?

Landau Forte College Derby  where our SCITT is based is rated ‘Outstanding’ and has the leading Progress 8 and Attainment 8 results for GCSE in Derbyshire and was rated first in the Good Schools Guide (2019) . We are proud that a number of colleagues were trained via the SCITT route.  Our staff work incredibly hard to support trainee teachers whilst making a difference to the outcomes of all the young people in our care and we are justifiably proud of our learning environment and the difference we make to disadvantaged students. We have a growing partnership of secondary schools across the local region. We take a lot of care to match you to a school and mentor where we think you will flourish.

We are proud that our trainee are mainly employed in the local area, where they can really make a difference. Our former trainees have had successful career progression into middle leadership roles only a few years after gaining Qualified Teacher Status.

What our trainees say about us:

“One of the benefits of choosing a SCITT route was feeling I was a valued part of the science team right from the start rather than a ‘visiting trainee’. I was able to gain QTS and a PGCE qualification but this was all done through the SCITT – the best of both worlds! The support I received from my mentor, subject knowledge tutor and SCITT team wasinvaluable and tailored to my own progress.  I chose Landau Forte SCITT as I was impressed by the positive relationships between staff and students on my visits and I have not been disappointed. Come and see for yourself!”

Sharon KenworthyLeader of Key Stage 3 Science (Trainee 2016-17)

The reason I chose LFC Derby SCITT was due to the fact it offered me a chance to be fully involved in the school’s community and feel a real part of a subject department from the outset. I have had the chance to witness a variety of teaching styles which has helped me to form my own. This, coupled with various opportunities for new experiences, has helped me to become a fully-fledged teacher in such a brilliant school environment”

Richard GidlowLeader of Key Stage 3 English (Trainee 2016-17)

“The support that is constantly offered by everyone I come into contact with has been fantastic”
“The quality of the Subject Knowledge sessions is excellent.  It is completely personalised and is therefore relevant to our own planning and experiences”

Erin Merlin Teacher of Physics (trainee 2015-16)

“Being a SCITT trainee has allowed me to interact with young people and demonstrate my passion for learning and history.  It has been fast paced and has really allowed me to integrate as a teacher from the offset. I really enjoyed the training I received at the SCITT – it was up to date, relevant and allowed us to reflect and critique new research and pedagogical theories.”

Taran HayreLeader of Key Stage 3 History, (Trainee 2015-16)
