Welcome

Landau Forte SCITT is an accredited ITT provider offering secondary school based teacher training experience alongside an exciting research-based curriculum. We offer outstanding education to students from all over the city, at our over-subscribed, diverse academy in the heart of Derby. So, who better to train and educate you then our experienced professionals.  We believe that with the support of skilled subject specialists, supportive teacher educators and passionate, dedicated mentors we can give you the best teacher training experience in Derby.

Our trainee teachers benefit from high quality bespoke training and personal support during their training year. That is why they speak about our provision so highly. Our subject specialist training is outstanding and taught in very small groups so trainees really excel in their subject knowledge, which we believe is at the heart of becoming a great teacher.

Our vision, as a provider of teacher education, is to train enthusiastic individuals who will be passionate about improving outcomes for all students, but especially the most disadvantaged and those with SEND.  We hope that, like the majority of our alumni, you will stay and work in the region and make a difference to our local communities.

Each partner school has a similar vision to us and together we are able to share excellent practice and the most recent innovations with trainees. You may be based in any of our partner schools with our well trained, dedicated mentors who will offer you bespoke training to meet your needs and experience and outstanding support at the start of your teaching career.

Why train with us?

Landau Forte College Derby where our SCITT is based is rated ‘Outstanding’ and has the leading Progress 8 and Attainment 8 results for GCSE in Derbyshire and ranked first in the Good Schools Guide (2020) . We are immensely proud that a number of our colleagues were trained via the SCITT route in one of our SCITT partner schools.  Our staff here, and in our partner schools, work incredibly hard to support trainee teachers whilst making a difference to the outcomes of all the young people in our care and we are justifiably proud of our learning environment and the difference we make to disadvantaged students. We have a growing partnership of secondary schools across the local region. We take a lot of care to match you to a school and mentor where we think you will flourish.

Our former trainees have had successful career progression into middle leadership roles only a few years after gaining Qualified Teacher Status.

100% of our 2019/20 completed their training and successfully gained employment, which was exceptional during a difficult lock-down period.

What our trainees say about us:

“One of the benefits of choosing a SCITT route was feeling I was a valued part of the science team right from the start rather than a ‘visiting trainee’. I was able to gain QTS and a PGCE qualification but this was all done through the SCITT – the best of both worlds! The support I received from my mentor, subject knowledge tutor and SCITT team wasinvaluable and tailored to my own progress.  I chose Landau Forte SCITT as I was impressed by the positive relationships between staff and students on my visits and I have not been disappointed. Come and see for yourself!”

Sharon KenworthyLeader of Key Stage 3 Science (Trainee 2016-17)

The reason I chose Landau and the SCITT route was due to the fact it offered me a chance to be fully involved in the school’s community and feel a real part of a subject department from the outset. I have had the chance to witness a variety of teaching styles which has helped me to form my own. This, coupled with various opportunities for new experiences, has helped me to become a fully-fledged teacher in such a brilliant school environment”

Richard GidlowLeader of Key Stage 3 English (Trainee 2016-17)

“The support that is constantly offered by everyone I come into contact with has been fantastic”
“The quality of the Subject Knowledge sessions is excellent.  It is completely personalised and is therefore relevant to our own planning and experiences”

Erin Merlin Teacher of Physics (trainee 2015-16)

“Being a SCITT trainee has allowed me to interact with young people and demonstrate my passion for learning and history.  It has been fast paced and has really allowed me to integrate as a teacher from the offset. I really enjoyed the training I received at the SCITT – it was up to date, relevant and allowed us to reflect and critique new research and pedagogical theories.”

Taran HayreLeader of Key Stage 3 History, (Trainee 2015-16)

I truly believe that Landau Forte SCITT is the best route into teaching, it provides you with so much support and guidance on your journey to becoming a teacher- I was able to start my career fully prepared.

Natalie WatkinsLeader of KS3 Mathematics (Trainee 2017-18)

The SCITT staff are extremely supportive and ensure that all trainees are offered helpful guidance from mentors, subject specialist tutors and outside agencies to become successful teachers. The year will be hard but it will be worth it in the end, the team will make sure you flourish in your chosen career.

Amber BainesTeacher of English (Trainee 2018-19)

The SCITT course is 100% the best way into teaching. The framework of learning and the level of support is fantastic; working with mentors and building up your teaching skills and timetable throughout the year. Trainees get to spread their wings and experience the environment of another school during a second contrasting placement after Christmas, before returning to their main placement to complete the course. I can’t recommend Landau SCITT enough. If you are considering it, do it!

Andy Denness-HullandTeacher of Art and Design (Trainee 2017-18)
